You cannot be truly free until you are capable of thinking for yourself

Outside the clouds build as another cold front moves in, the wind picks up and the temperature begins to drop rapidly. Winter is upon us and in the high desert, winter is both uncomfortable and thankfully brief. While we rarely have days where the temperatures reach freezing they do occur. Like the weather there has been a recent noticeable chill in the air among those who claim to embrace and love freedom.Β new cards

With the upswing in violent action by state thugs against those who desire freedom there has been a radical surge in anti state rhetoric from individuals for whom there exists no in between or possibility of good within the evil. I am writing this today because I believe that I and many others have been approaching things in a manner that does not promote good. Recently I have begun questioning my beliefs because I believe quite strongly in making certain what I believe is true.

Kneeling, both knees

Kneeling, both knees

The system of government as it applies to modern states is evil at its core. No real good has ever come of this government, otherwise known as state. However, there is a need for governance, as in tribal and or town approaches to government. This is natural, most animal species have tribes, groups or some type of familial unit meant for both protection and mutual benefit. Humans are animals, possibly more evolved in some ways but still simply animals.

The various entities within the entity of government are also evil at their core. They cannot promote freedom simply because government as it is commonly defined is at complete odds with freedom as it is defined. As a result a military, police force and or criminal justice system cannot promote freedom or protect it. Essentially any organization within government must work to promote governments interests which are always to ensure its own survival. 20130120-175016.jpg

The important things to remember are quite simple, with very few exceptions we have all at some point been involved in or supported the idea of government/state. Remember this and stop being the person that you detested when you supported the state. We humans tend to strike out when we are faced with the demise of the ideas that we once held a firm belief in. This never changes among humans and is called, cognitive dissonance. Remember that you also were once affected with this and often lashed out at those who were attempting to show you the light. 20130113-113428.jpgdoes not mean everyone involved is also evil. Most of them have not had the exposure to truth that you have. Remember this when you lash out at a uniform. Remember that this is exactly what the uniforms are doing when they lash out at you for being counter culture!

Stop and think, if you are no longer questioning why you believe, maybe it is time to do so? Question always question, and please by all that is holy to whomever is reading this, learn to form arguments rationally using your own thoughts. You cannot be truly free until you are capable of thinking for yourself! And no, building your beliefs into a new religion or promoting a new group as a replacement for the old one is not thinking for yourself.

Free the mind and the body will follow

About Jesse Mathewson

Jesse Mathewson is the author of the popular blog, jessetalksback.com and provides commentary to many varied places based on a background that includes education in criminal justice, history, religion and even insurgency tactics and tactical training. His current role in his community is as an organizer of sorts and a preacher of community solidarity and agorism. He also runs Liberty Practical Training, a self defense school specializing in the practical applications of defensive approaches versus the theoretical. As an agorist, voluntaryist and atheist his life is seen as crazy and wild by many, though once they get to know him most realize he is a bluntly honest individual who will give you the shirt off his back if he believes it is necessary to help you. Very simple, "That which is voluntary between all individuals involved is always right, if it is not voluntary, it is always wrong."

Not oh boy do I love this journal entrty! There are many great points here. Even much more in the comments.
I do have to question you Jesse. How do you stay married with all these thoughts floating in your head? There is no doubt, you are less vocal than I am during your regular interactions with people throughout the day. I can see you “offending” many in any given week.
I continue to read your blog b/c I see growth in a individual. I admit. I vote. I do day dream when people say, “Fuck it.” And don’t show up to the polls. I’ll dry hump a corn stock when that day happens. I do have to disagree with you (voting wise) when it’s local. But that’s just me. I’ve also got my ear on the tracks when it comes to local politics. It effects me b/c I’m a local. My business is local. I spend my income damn near 90% local. Minus jeep parts. I volunteer locally. My families education is local.
You say freedom as in a mind set. Like speaking something into existence. Not in a sociopath kinda way. Or speaking negatively opposed to positively. Mind over matter if you will? But perhaps that is not what is evolving around you? Even though there is a marginal percent that thinks the same way.
See. I feel isolated among liberal view. Not to name call. But being surrounded by folks that think the guy next to you at the grocery store, actually gives a flying fuck about the rash between your balls and ass hole. Let alone the gov. during a time of desperation. Makes me “that ” guy. The analogy makes sense in head. Sorry if the text didn’t match.

We need real change. We need freedom. Not enough are brave enough to stand up and take what is rightfully theirs. You know, I used to tell myself that if just one person would take a stand, others would join in. Their have been several “one persons” that have taken that stand though and nothing happened. I have lost my faith in humanity. People talk about wanting to live truly free from taxes and govt interference but never act even when someone else takes the lead. I’m sad. Welcome to 1984.

I sometimes daydream about noone showing up to the polls to vote. That would be epic! At this point the only peaceful revolution would be withdrawal of consent, IMHO.

I also have no faith in humanity. And I also have hope as long as individuals like ourselves still exist. You’ve bred some and are educating them quite well. I am happy for that I am proud of you as my friend for that as well. I have no children so i do not have the opportunity to instill a sense of freedom into that generation like you do. I do my best with limited resources, and I suppose, that is ok too. As long as we exist and live, then yes, the potential will always be there πŸ™‚

Excellent. You know, your rather brute force ways actually help me to balance the bullshit that I am surrounded by are good for me personally, I am glad you’ve come around at least on an intellectual level to understand myself, and I suspect Heath and Felicia, and probably countless others. You are, bar none, one of the most intelligent and well read individuals I have ever had the the honor to call friend…and when it really comes right down to it, you are my family. Part of my tribe…as you will. I try to read as much as I can that you publish online, be it a blog post or a comment or a status update. I do this, because I have watched your evolution and the change of your path and I respect and for the most part I understand it. I try very hard to do this because you help me on my path as well. I’m not a blind follower, but you already know this, but you have earned my respect over the years because you are exactly a critical thinker and you challenge the status quo. I am glad you’ve receded a small iota from your zealotry, but don’t ever stop pushing us, all of us to think. Personally Jesse, I appreciate you, because you are you. period. Keep it up brother.

Love ya and I really miss you guys being in SV…lol! πŸ™‚

Well, tentatively I will be with my surrogate family on “the day”. My GF wants me to spend Xmas eve with her in Nogales…so I don’t really know. Are you going to be in SV on XMas day? If so, that might sway me to neglect Nogales since it is really hard for me with no PTO and Xmas in the fucking middle of the week to make happen. I ma in a quandary right now actually, because If I go to Nogales, I will likely not be able to be in SV for “the Day” but if I go to SV for Xmas eve, then I am assured to be there for xmas day…my life is fucking crazy right now brother! ….But if you’re going to be around, let me know!
